Altaro VM Backup Support Centre

Version 3.1 Build 3.1.8

Last Updated: Sep 11, 2013 11:50AM CEST

New Feature: Boot from Backup Drive

This feature allows you to temporarily boot a VM directly from the backup drive without having to perform a full restore.  This allows you to get the VM up and running within a very short amount of time.  Allowing you to postpone a proper full recovery until a time when VM downtime is acceptable.

Improvements

  • Prevent the backup of a VM if it is currently undergoing a "Snapshot Merge" operation, instead postponing the backup by one hour.
  • Better handling of error messages when backing up VMs on another node.
  • Checking of free space on VHD restore path if specified as a different path to the main restore path.
  • Entries inserted into the Event Log Event now have the Event ID set according to the status and operation type:

          //5000 = Successful Backup
          //5001 = Successful Backup with Warnings
          //5002 = Failed Backup
          //5003 = Successful Restore
          //5004 = Failed Restore

  • Enabled "Retries" in communication between nodes in order to make the backup more robust and not fail upon a single communication timeout.
  • Added a check to confirm shared backup drive permissions upon a drive swap.

Fixes

  • Enabled "Retries" in communication between nodes in order to make the backup more robust and not fail upon a single communication timeout.
  • Added a check to confirm shared backup drive permissions upon a drive swap.
  • Fixed a bug in maintenance that was preventing deletion of older versions if the oldest backup in the backup history was a failed backup.
  • Fixed a bug that was causing previously deleted VM files to be restored unnecessarily (however without affecting the restored VM).
  • Fixed a bug that was causing the backup following an aborted backup to fail in some cases.
  • Fixed a problem causing multiple prompts in case of a "Start from scratch" notification.
  • Fixed a problem causing the VHD to be referenced in the wrong location during a File Level Restore in rare cases.
  • Fixed a bug that was causing RDX rotation configuration to be ignored if Drive Swapping was previously enabled.
  • Fixed a rare bug in the VM Backup Settings dialog which caused a "Close without saving" warning even though the settings would have been saved.
  • More improvements and bug fixes under the hood.
